We hope everyone is having a great weekend at Sci-Fi on the Rock!

New episodes next week!

By the way, a little bird told us there is a special web site for the new Supernatural episode airing next Thursday, April 24th. We are avoiding the spoilers, but for those of you who aren’t avoiding them - spoilers ahoy!

It is time to celebrate once again as we announce the successful close of Fandom Rocks’ second campaign!

Support for Fandom Rocks was in full force the last three weeks of February as everyone came together to reach the campaign goal. PayPal donations, CafePress purchases, and Amazon Associates fees raised over $2,200 USD for our charities! On March 1, when we added Dana’s donations to cover various fees, the final tally came to a nice round $2,350 USD!

Thank you to everyone who donated, contributed to the fan-organized fundraisers, and helped spread the word. The campaign would not have been a success without the involvement of all the fans and supporters.

The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Lawrence Humane Society will each receive $1,175 USD from Fandom Rocks. Plans are underway to deliver our donations in person. Brande will be working with the Semper Fi Fund, and Dana will be road-tripping to Lawrence once again to visit the Lawrence Humane Society. Would you like to join Dana as she tours the shelter and enjoys the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Lawrence? (The Humane Society will have a float, so there will definitely be pictures.) Send us a note to let us know to look for you!

Two more important notes:

  1. The poll for the next campaign charities is still open on the web site. We would love to have a large turnout, and it closes on Saturday, March 15. Please vote if you haven’t yet!
  2. The Lawrence Humane Society is placing a plaque in recognition of Fandom Rocks in their building! We have an opportunity to contribute to the text on the plaque. Jump over to our Livejournal community and share your ideas; anonymous comments are fine, too. We will send the final draft on Monday, March 10.

Successful Charity Campaign for Fans of CW’s Supernatural
(more…)

If you are like us, you found yourself running out of time these past few weeks. Sleep became a luxury. Days when work was supposed to be light and airy became heavy and slow. The weather decided it would be funny to dump snow, rain, or ice on you. (Well, maybe not those of you south of the equator.)

Of course, this doesn’t mean things have stopped at Fandom Rocks. We are still here! The Frontline is still working in the background on non-for-profit tasks and future events. We hope you haven’t forgotten about us. We certainly haven’t forgotten about you or those our charities help.

Charity is a huge part of the holiday season. Some friends have opted to make donations instead of sending cards. Some choose to ask for donations on their wishlist rather than gifts. If you choose to donate this season, we hope you will consider our charities. Remember, you can donate directly to them, and if you let them know it is a part of Fandom Rocks we will add it to the tally and donor’s list on the donate page.

Be safe, happy, and healthy. We will see you in 2008!

Beginning next week, Fandom Rocks Frontline will hold regular meetings on Wednesday evenings at 9:30PM Central US time. The meetings will be every other week unless someone requests a special meeting on the off week.

What will the meetings be about?

  • Not-for-profit status and tasks
  • Campaign status, thank you’s, and ideas
  • What are we not doing that we could be doing?
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Upcoming events
  • Other Fandom Rocks related discussion

We need you to make Fandom Rocks a success! Please consider joining us. To keep costs down for our worldwide fandom, we are holding our meetings with Skype - no phone calls required. Download Skype, make sure you have a microphone (headphones help, too), and send Dana a message on Skype (nickname: roniabirk) so she can add you to her contacts. At 9:30PM Central, Dana will create a conference call with all Fandom Rockers who are online at that time. All you have to do is be there on the other end of the computer.

We realize it is a challenge to find a convenient time for, well, everyone in the world from any time zone, but we hope this works out for some of you. We are open to feedback about the day and time.

You can add the meetings to your Google Calendar and receive reminders by using this link: .

See you next Wednesday!

Skip your morning coffee-stop and donate $5 to Fandom Rocks’ latest campaign. Just $1 feeds an animal at the Lawrence Humane Society for 1 day.

*Loveline is awesome, too. We just couldn’t resist the subject line.
